CUV's in-house Lightweight Aerostat System can be used for field testing of various payloads, such as communications and surveillance payloads. This can provide a long-endurance surrogate for other platforms such as aircraft or Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), providing a lower-cost platform for testing. Due to the ease of mounting payloads on the aerostat, and the absence of electronic interference sources such as UAS control signals, this testing is often easier and faster than alternate platforms. Flight testing can also be used to develop new customer aerostat payloads. Flight test operations can be conducted at our Raleigh, North Carolina location or deployed to a customer site. The system is trailer mounted so deployment within one or two days driving of North Carolina is straightforward. Locations further away usually require shipping. CUV provides the operating crews although the customer usually provides the payloads specialists. CUV provides all consumables such as helium and generator fuel and secures FAA flight waivers.
